Sixth
Grade Band
The Sixth Grade Band at
Indian Trail Junior High is divided into three separate classes, the Green
Band (clarinets & percussion), the White Band (flute, oboe, & saxophone),
and the Purple Band (brass). Splitting
the
band up during the school day allows for more individualized attention
for each student in the class. All
three
classes, however, combine for concerts as the Sixth Grade Band.
In addition to daily band
rehearsals, 6th grade students are required to attend one small group lesson
per week, during lunch. These "lunch lessons" give students the
opportunity to focus on and receive help with problems and challenges they
are currently facing with their playing. The Sixth Grade Band performs
in three concerts during the year, and the members are also eligible to
participate in the Illinois Grade School Music Association's Solo and Ensemble
Contest. Sixth Grade Band students are also eligible to audition for
$100
music scholarships, sponsored by the Addison Music Parents, to be used
towards the
cost of private music lessons or Summer Music Lessons. For more detailed
information on Sixth Grade Band performances, see the Band
Department Calendar.
