BOARD BRIEFS


At its Regular Meeting of September 26, 2006 the Board of Education conducted the following business:

President Williams called the regular meeting to order at 7:09 p.m.

After a brief moment of silence, Mr. Langton led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Board approved the minutes of the Regular and Closed Session Meetings of September 12, 2006.

The Board approved the Accounts Payable for September, 2006. Ms. Masterton addressed questions from the Board.

The Board approved the Payroll for August 2006.

Presentation:

Acknowledgement of Defibrillator Contributions to Addison School District 4

Mr. Williams acknowledged the companies that graciously contributed toward the purchase of defibrillators for the entire school district. Mr. Williams stated that we certainly hope to never have to use these life saving devices but it is comforting to know that they will be available to use, if necessary. The Addison Police Department has also offered, free of charge, to train all individuals that would use the defibrillators. Mr. Williams also thanked Mr. Lullo, fellow Board member, for soliciting all of these contributions. Mr. Lullo assisted Mr. Williams in distributing the framed certificates. There was a brief recess called so the members of the Board and the audience could thank the people that contributed toward the purchase of the defibrillators.

What's Happening at Lincoln School

Mr. Guillermo Heredia, Principal of Lincoln School, opened his presentation with “The Lincoln Pledge”. The children recite the Pledge of Allegiance and “The Lincoln Pledge” daily. The “Lincoln Pledge” promises daily attendance, trying to do your best, etc.

Mr. Heredia also covered these areas at Lincoln School :

Mr. Heredia addressed questions and comments from the Board. The Board thanked Mr. Heredia for his informative presentation and also congratulated the Lincoln School staff again for making Adequate Yearly Progress, two years in a row.

  Superintendent's Report: Dr. Hendricks indicated that he had included some “Fast Facts” for the Board to review that stress the sense of the challenges that the school and community are facing.

Assistant Superintendent for Business Report: Ms. Masterton reported that the district audit was completed and that it went very well. The district auditor will be invited to present the audit at the Board meeting on October 17.

Director of Curriculum Report: Mr. Frontier reported on the articulation processes that take place between Addison Trail High School and Addison School District 4. He indicated in general, the relationship we have with the staff at Addison Trail High School is excellent. They view the task of educating the students here in Addison as one shared by both school districts.

•  Regular Board of Education Meeting – Tuesday, October 17, 2006, 7:00 p.m., Board Room – Indian Trail Junior High School

•  District Enrollments
  Enrollments were discussed and the posting of certified aide positions to assist in classrooms with high enrollments.

•  North Field – Indian Trail Junior High School – P.E.
  Dr. Hendricks requested that 7 trees be removed from the north property at Indian Trail Junior High School , in order to give the Indian Trail PE classes space for outdoor classes. Estimates for this work will be brought to the Board at the next meeting.

•  Other

  Miscellaneous/Unfinished Business: Mr. Williams thanked the community for supporting the Kiwanis Peanut Day and thanked the Indian Trail Builders Club for their help that day.
