BOARD BRIEFS


At its Regular Meeting of December 19, 2006 the Board of Education conducted the following business:

President Williams called the regular meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.

After a brief moment of silence, Mr. Langton led the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Board approved the minutes of the Regular and Closed Session Meetings of November 28, 2006.

The Board approved the Accounts Payable for December 2006. Ms. Masterton addressed questions from the Board.

The Board approved the Payroll for November 2006.

Presentation: What's Happening at Lake Park Elementary School

Ms. Debra Martello, Principal of Lake Park Elementary School, began her presentation by thanking the Board for the money that was given to them for their library. She also expressed her gratitude for the difference in the environment at the school due to the improvements from the construction. Ms. Martello had hung a “quilt” incorporating pictures of the children and teachers enjoying their new and improved environment, library improvements, new textbooks and embracing the newly integrated tablet technology into every facet of their learning experience. Ms. Martello distributed blue Panther Pride ( Lake Park 's mascot) bracelets to each member of the Board and admin istration. Mr. Williams thanked her for her informative presentation.

Communication/Public Participation: None

Superintendent's Report: Dr. Hendricks informed the Board that the official audit was included in their Board packet. He also indicated that the School Safety Assessment was included. The District is presently working with local law enforcement to make sure that all facets of the assessment are followed, including uniform numbering of all outside doors for consistency when responding to an emergency. Mr. Williams indicated that he hoped that our contracted cleaning service (GCA) would be included in any future discussions for continuity of shared information.

Assistant Superintendent for Business Report:

Ms. Masterton updated the Board on the progress on getting proposals from cell phone companies to replace the present service.

The 121 Fullerton building has been vacated by the architects and construction manager employees. STR, the district's architects, is formulating a plan for the district on utilization of this space. STR is also preparing recommendations and plans for the district's 5-year projection plan. The former kitchen area used by Arbor will also be assessed and a plan will be recommended for renovation of this space.

Director of Curriculum Report:

Mr. Frontier reported that feedback from the early release day surveys indicated that the second early release day was a huge success. Teachers are applying the strategies shared during these days to instruction on a daily basis.

Mr. Frontier shared the ISAT testing data may be released in January or early February. He also stated this may be an optimistic date. The district will await news from the State.

Discussion Items:

•  Regular Board of Education Meeting – Tuesday, January 23, 2006, 7:00 p.m., Board Room – Indian Trail Junior High School

•  The Board discussed the proposal for the Wide Area Network (WAN) Consulting Services for District 4.

•  The Board reviewed the proposal of Telephone System Consulting and Evaluation Services for the District from Telesolutions. Ms. Masterton stated, due to the fact that there will be no curriculum adoption next year, the money that would normally be spent on an adoption can be allocated toward this expense.

•  Ms. Masterton reviewed the budget calendar for the FY08 school year.

•  The Board reviewed the proposed 2007-2008 school calendar that parallels the high school's calendar. Adoption of the 2007-2008 calendar is slated for the January meeting.

•  Board Training Session – Tuesday, January 9, 2007 – 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. will include long term planning and any information from the recent School Board conference.

 

Miscellaneous/Unfinished Business: The art work was created by students from Indian Trail Junior High School .

The Board adjourned the Tuesday, December 19, 2006 Board of Education meeting at 8:03 p.m.
