Stone School Move-A-Thon Benefits Hospital

Stone School students, staff and families participated in the school's first annual Giving Back Day Move-a-Thon.  This event was planned in honor of Gianna DiSilvestro as a fundraiser for Children's Memorial Hospital .  Gianna was the 11 month old sister of two Stone School students and she battled Rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare form of childhood cancer, during her short life.  She died one week before her first birthday.  Gianna was treated at Children's Memorial from the time she was diagnosed until the time she lost her life.

As a tribute to Gianna, Stone School faculty and students decided to host the Move-a-Thon event on the last day of school.  Students raised funds prior to the event and then spent the morning walking, dancing and other fun activities. Over 600 people participated in the event and more than $9,800 was raised and will be donated to Children's Memorial to help with their work in advancing knowledge of childhood diseases and caring for children.
