Blocks Area

Blocks are open-ended play materials that allow children to create whatever their imaginations desire. They can work in a group to create a common structure, and develop their social skills. They develop cognitive skills when they learn to classify by size, shape, and weight. They learn about balance, and how to solve problems. They develop their large and small muscles, as well as their eye-hand coordination when they manipulate the blocks. They often express pride in what they accomplish.

Parents can purchase smaller table blocks, or colored wooden cubes, or cardboard brick blocks as alternatives to more expensive hardwood unit blocks like the ones in our classroom.
