Our Playdoh table is a place where children's creativity comes alive. Using Playdoh is a sensory experience in which the children use their senses of sight, smell, and mostly touch. They develop their small muscles molding and pounding the clay. They develop social skills sharing and taking turns with the materials. They use language to talk about what they are making. They often express delight with their creations. |

Parents can
easily provide experiences with Playdoh, or any children's
modeling dough. Provide objects for the children to
manipulate the dough with, such a a rolling pin and cookie
cutters. Give them items they can press into the dough that
will leave distinct impressions, such as a golf ball and
bubble wrap. Let them slice the dough with a plastic knife.
Dough play can get messy. I would recommend doing this
activity in the kitchen, or in a room where there is no
carpeting. This is the recipe we use to make our favorite
dough. Click on the
link below to see some other art recipes: 2 cups of water 2 cups of flour 1 cup of salt 2 tablespoons cooking
oil 4 teaspoons of cream of
tartar 2 packages of Kool Aid (for
color and aroma) Place all the ingredients into
a large pot and mix well. Turn the stove on medium heat and
keep stirring the ingredients until they are cooked and form
a ball. Remove from the pan and knead. (If the dough is too
sticky, add some flour.) Store in a covered
container.
