
In using the book, "The Turtle and the Sky Bowl", by Wyatt Bessing, the children will make paper plate turtles. The children will also be introduced to the tradition and legends of the Native American culture.
In learning about Native American culture, the children will discover the importance of corn, then and now. The children will observe different types of corn, color variations and the various uses of corn. The children will experiment to find out why popcorn pops.
In art, the children will make Native American vests. The children will decorate their vests using symbol sheets(circles, triangles, squares) to formulate patterns.
In language arts, the children will select an animal and create their own legend similar to the Native American culture. They will illustrate the legend that they write or dictate to the teacher.
