Army Trail is a COMMUNITY of LEARNERS! WE are ALL in this TOGETHER! The year is quickly flying by and before we know it will once again be time for summer break. I would like to thank all of you who helped contribute to our fund-raiser for the victims of Haiti as we raised over $1720. The generosity that our students, parents, teachers, and community demonstrated was truly touching. This is another example that Army Trail truly is a community of learners and that we are all in this together! As we move further into the Spring, schools across Illinois are focusing their efforts on preparing students for the ISAT (Illinois Standards Achievement Test). All 3rd - 8th grade students in the state of Illinois will be tested between March 1st and March 12th . Students are tested in a variety of areas to measure mastery of state standards for learning. Tests will include Reading and Math. Students in grades 3,5,6 and 8 take an additional test in Writing. Students in grades 4 and 7 take a test in Science. These tests are a valuable tool in measuring the growth and progress of our students, but they are not the only tool. We currently use several formal and informal assessments of students to drive instruction that meets every child's needs. The ISAT is one of these tools. We want our students to do well on tests and more importantly make academic progress. I would like to offer some strategies to help your child be successful on testing days and in school every day. Please arrange a schedule for him or her to follow every night. Establishing and following a routine and finding a quiet place for your child to do their homework will help your child complete all homework. A good night's sleep and a nutritional breakfast will also help students do their best in school. Talking to your child every day about what they have learned and encouraging them to do their best will help ensure academic achievement for your child as well. If you have any questions or if there is anything that we can do to support learning at home please contact us. Also, you know your child the best, so if you have any suggestions or if there is anything we need to know about your child please let us know. There cannot be too much communication between school and home!
Sincerely,
