HUMANITIES AND CAREERS

HUMANITIES AND CAREERS
Humanities and Careers, taught by Ms. Oberman, expand the Social Studies curriculum by adding the areas of Geography, Humanities, and Careers with the extra added bonus of Junior Achievement (JA) courses in all three grades. The 6th grade focuses on geography of Europe using globes, maps, and atlases to explore the locations and environments of the European continent . Add to this the JA course of Global Marketplace and you have a perfect fit of international business economy. The 7 th grade launches into Humanities in Southeast Asia centering on the different governments, languages, religions, and histories of these nations. Accompanying this is the new JA course Economics for Success which explores personal finance and career options based on skills, interests, and values and demonstrates the economic benefits of staying in school. The 8th grade Careers class enters the future world of work by introducing job applications, resumes, and work permits along with exploration into high school requirements and electives, work study programs, and post secondary options such as paraprofessional, military, and college and university options. The new JA course for 8th grade, America Works, provides students with examples of how business and entrepreneurship affected the economic development of the United States during the 19th century. All in all, the 3 years of Humanities and Careers at Indian Trail helps prepare our students for their future in the modern world.
