A    ATTENDANCE

Time is the most precious resource we have with your child. Encourage daily attendance.

B    BUSING

Students must ride the bus they have been assigned to having their student identification cards with them at all times. Permission to ride a different bus for family emergencies must have the approval of the Principal.

C    CURRICULUM

Every student has reading, writing, math, science, social science, and physical education on a daily basis. Quarter length courses are called SPECIALS.

D    DISCIPLINE

Indian Trail rules are published in the Indian Trail Student Handbook. The rules are taught, tested and reviewed at the semester.

E    EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

There are many sports, clubs and opportunities for community service at our school. Additionally, students may participate in our award winning after school Program, the Student Participation Center.

F    FIELD TRIPS

Field trips are scheduled throughout the year! Join us as a chaperone for a day of fun!

G    GRADING

Each teacher is required to submit a grading plan to the Principal outlining how student are graded in his class. If you don’t receive a copy, please call the teacher directly.

H    HOMEWORK

"I don’t have any homework………….OR I did my homework in school" are two favorite lines of junior high students. When in doubt, check the HOMEWORK HOTLINE or call your child’s teachers, especially if their report card grades are less than satisfactory.

I    IDEAS

If you ever have an idea that you would like to share, please don’t hesitate to call one of the three building administrators. We are committed to continually improving Indian Trail; your suggestions are welcome!

J    JARGON……..ITBS, ISAT, TRAIL TALK

Educators love acronyms! A few you should know that apply to Indian Trail are ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills), ISAT (Illinois Standards Achievement Testing), Trail Talk (our newsletter) and SPC (Student Participation Center).

K    KIDS’ FRIENDS

Every parent should know the first and last names of their children’s friends in addition to their phone numbers. Post this information near your phone; friends’ homes are the first place to check if your child does not arrive home from school on time.

L    LUNCH

Indian Trail serves a variety of hot food items on a daily basis. The cost of a basic lunch is $1.85. A la carte items are also available.

M    MEDICATION

Students must have a medication permission form on file in the nurse’s office in order to take medicine at school. You may get this form on our web page or in the Indian Trail office.

N    NECESSARY SCHOOL SUPPLIES

A school supply list is sent home with our registration packet. In general, students should have loose-leaf paper, pencils, pens and spiral notebooks with them each day.

O    OFFICE HOURS

Indian Trail’s official office hours are 7 AM until 3:30 PM.

P    PROJECT PRIDE/PTA

Project Pride is our major student motivational program at our school. Students earn Project Pride "bucks" which may be traded in at our school store or for a field trip at the end of the year. PTA is a major sponsor of this program.

R    RECOGNITION

Students are recognized in many ways. Look for team honors, department honors, Good News reports, and Project Pride incentives.

S    SAFETY

Keeping our school safe is a daily commitment on the part of every staff member. Students are instructed in safety drills throughout the year.

T    TECHNOLOGY

Indian Trail students take a computer course in the specials area classes and have computers in every classroom. Specialized types of technology are utilized in special content areas such as science.

U    UPCOMING EVENTS

Your child should bring home a calendar on a monthly basis. Additionally, you may check our web page for current information as well as the local cable TV station.

V    VISITATION/VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Parents are welcome to visit our school at any time! If you have time and/or talents to share with us, join our volunteer group!

W    WARNING!!!!!!

Bringing a weapon to school or District 4 property shall cause a student to be expelled.

X    XTRA ATTENTION

Each student at Indian Trail is assigned to a team. The teaming organization allows us to provide extra attention to students who may need additional academic, social or emotional support.

Y    YEARBOOK

Each year the PTA designs and sells yearbooks as a memento of the school year. Flyers regarding orders are given to students in homeroom.

Z    ZZZZZZZZ…….THE IMPORTANCE OF SLEEP

Medical authorities state that children this age need eight to ten hours sleep per night. A good night’s sleep is necessary for a productive school day.
