Stone School Information
Stone School Office
Stone School Office number is 628-4020 .
All visitors are required to check in at the office and to wear a visitor's badge.
School Day
School starts at 8:50 am each day and ends at 3:15 pm. Special education homerooms begin at 8:20 am and ends at 2:45 pm. Lunch/Recess begins at 11:50 pm and concludes at 12:35 pm.
Absence number: 628-4054
All students are encouraged attending school everyday. Although school attendance is very important, it is more important to keep your child home when he/she is ill. If your child has a fever, he/she needs to be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school. In the event that a child is too ill to attend school, please phone the school and report your child's absence. Please give your child's name, the grade level, teacher's name and the date of the absence.
Morning Arrival
Riders and Walkers arrive at the school no earlier than 8:4 5 am. Playground Supervisors arrive at 8:45 am. Please be aware that if your child arrives before 8: 4 5 am, they will be unsupervised. When children arrive at school, they are to line-up at their designated lines on the playground. At the 8:45 bell, students are dismissed to the classrooms. All students are expected to be in the building when school starts at 8:50 am. On morning when there is inclement weather, children will go into the building.
Buses
Buses arrive at the school no earlier 8:45 am. Special Education buses that follow an alternate schedule are the exception. Students should always follow all the bus safety rules. Students may not ride any bus other than the one they are assigned. It is assumed that the student will be riding the bus each day unless a note from a parent states otherwise.
Parking
The west parking lot (on the corner of Stone & DuPage Avenues) is for staff parking only. Parent and visitor parking is in the east parking lot (corner of Stone & Lombard Avenues). Parking in the east parking lot provides parents and visitors the ability to ring the door bell for entry without having to walk around the building.
Car Pooling, Walking, and Biking to School
The importance of student and adult safety is paramount. We anticipate that the drop off area will be very crowded during the beginning days of school and potentially at other times during the school year. To alleviate automobile crowding, please walk to school with your child(ren) or have your child(ren) walk to school with a friend, car pool, or if they are transported by bus, please have them do so.
Drop Off:

Snack
At Stone, we believe in healthy snacking to provide students and staff with the fuel to keep going throughout the morning before our larger lunch meal. Snacking helps to keep energy levels high and minds alert. Please send a healthy snack and water to school with your child each day. Here are a few healthy snacking ideas: celery sticks, apple slices, whole grain crackers, carrot sticks, and cheese. **Please do not send items that need to be refrigerated.
Lunch Recess
Students in grades 1-5 have daily, outdoor recess unless it is raining, the wind chill is below 10 (ten) degrees Fahrenheit, or due to other inclement weather conditions. Please dress your child (ren) so that they are prepared to go outside. If/when it snows, students who wear snow pants and boots will be allowed to play in the snow during recess time.

• If you need a free lunch application, please stop by the office. If your child received free lunch last year, this will carry over until October 1 st this year. First grade students are not on free lunch until the application is submitted and approved. Please send a lunch with your child until you receive an approval letter.
Birthdays
Student birthdays and half birthdays are an exciting day at Stone. Students get to hear their names during the morning announcements, as well as receive a birthday pencil from the office. Parents wishing to bring birthday treats for their children's birthday should keep in mind that treats should be store bought (due to allergies) and that these treats are passed out at the end of the day at approximately 3:00 p.m.
Please remember that birthday invitations should not be passed out at school. Please use the U.S. Mail or hand deliver these invitations to student's houses. Thank you for your help .
