Addison School District 4 continues to transform student learning by using current technology.  Our learning environment promotes innovation and creativity through access to Chromebooks, robotics, coding, and other STEAM initiatives.  

Our three year Innovation and Technology Plan focuses on the following three goals:

  • Goal 1: All learners will have engaging learning opportunities that prepare them to be empowered and innovative learners, creators, collaborators, and responsible digital citizens.
  • Goal 2: All teachers will utilize technology to enhance, engage, and personalize student learning to prepare students to be empowered and innovative learners, creators, collaborators, and responsible digital citizens.
  • Goal 3: Increase parent understanding of technology use, the available resources, and Internet safety.

    Internet Access

    If your family does not have Internet access at home, please contact your school office.  If you qualify for free/reduced lunch or have been approved for a fee waiver, the district may be able to assist you with a district-issued mobile hotspot.  

    Chromebook Troubleshooting

    • Students' Chromebooks will not allow access to any sites between 10:00 pm and 6:15 am.If websites are blocked between 6:15 am-9:59 pm, please have your child sign-out of their Chromebook and sign-in again. This should correct the issue.

    • Chromebook issues and/or damage should be reported your child's classroom teacher. Please explain the issue in detail and ask the teacher to submit an Incident IQ ticket. The tech department will review these tickets.

     

    Seesaw for Students

  • Skyward Family Access is the district's web-based student information system.  Parents can utilize Skyward to view school related information through their Family Access account.

  • Google Classroom is a learning management system that allows teachers to engage students and assign projects/classwork.  Students are able to turn assignments in on Classroom, so that teachers can assign grades and feedback.  

    While parents & guardians cannot login to Google Classroom, they have the option to receive e-mails from Google Classroom.  In the beginning of the year, an email will be sent asking parents to opt-in to receive Google Classroom email summaries- either daily (M-F) or weekly. Email summaries include missing work, upcoming work/assignment, class activity such as announcements, assignments, and questions recently posted by teachers.

  • Savvas Envision Math is utilized by all students in Kindergarten through 5th grade.  Savvas has created parent guides and tutorials to help their child access the Envision online portal.  You can view the Parent Guides or visit the Parent Portal for extensive resources.

  • Seesaw is a student engagement platform and student portfolio used by students in grades PreK-5.  Students are able to create, collaborate, reflect, and share their ideas and learning through multiple modes.  In the beginning of the school year, classroom teachers will send home a unique QR Code for parents, so that they can view class announcements and their own child's work!  

    If you did not receive information about accessing your child's portfolio, please contact your child's teacher.

  • Student Data and Privacy

    Student data is protected through comprehensive privacy policies and security measures such as firewalls, secure servers, intrusion detection software, and other methods. 

    Effective July 1, 2021, school districts will be required by the Student Online Personal Protection Act (SOPPA) to provide additional guarantees that student data is protected when collected by the educational technology companies, and that data is used for beneficial purposes only (105 ILCS 85).  In compliance, Addison School District 4 only collects information that directly relates to school activities and safeguards the privacy of students and confidentiality of student data.  

     

    SOPPA requires that school districts must:

    • Enter into written agreements with all K-12 service providers who collect student data.  Covered data includes, but is not limited to: information in the student's educational record, first/last name, address, phone number, email address, grades, test results, socioeconomic information, photos, search activity, voice recordings, geolocation information, and more. 
    • Implement and maintain reasonable security practices.  Student data is protected through comprehensive privacy policies and security measures such as firewalls, secure servers, intrusion detection software, and other methods.  Written agreements with vendors require that the vendor also maintains security procedures.
    • Post a list of operators.  This list will include what data elements are shared, written agreements/contracts with the operator within 10 days of signing, & subcontractors for each operator.

    Addison School District 4 adheres to the following applicable laws regarding student data and privacy:

    Addison School District 4 Data Privacy Officer

    Federal and State law govern the protection of student data, including school student records and/or covered information. The sale, rental, lease, or trading of any school student records or covered information by the District is prohibited. Protecting such information is important for legal compliance, District operations, and maintaining the trust of District stakeholders, including parents, students and staff. The Board designates the Assistant Superintendent for Innovation and Information to serve as Privacy Officer, who shall ensure the District complies with the duties and responsibilities required of it under the Student Online Personal Protection Act, 105 ILCS 85/, amended by P.A. 101-516, eff. 7-1-21.

    District-approved Web-based Tools/Applications and Written Agreements

    Addison School District 4 values your child's privacy and strives to ensure that parents are aware of what web-based tools and applications are being used for educational purposes.  A list of ASD4 approved web-based tools, written agreements with operators, and a list of data elements shared can be found and reviewed here.

    Parent Rights
    Parents have the right to inspect, review, and correct information maintained by the school, operator, and the Illinois State Board of Education.  All requests should be directed to the Assistant Superintendent of Innovation and Information at 630/458-2433.  

    Data Breaches

    In the event that there is a data breach, Addison School District 4 notify parents via district communication systems within 30 days of a data breach and within 60 days if a third-party is responsible for the data breach.

  • Our curriculum includes learning opportunities about safe Internet use and good digital citizenship.  Through interactive lessons created by Common Sense Media and other resources, our students learn how to keep themselves safe online, manage and monitor their digital footprint, copyright information, media literacy, etc. 

    There are also many great resources for parents and families to access about Internet safety, parental controls, electronics contracts, etc. We highly encourage families to monitor their child's online/electronics activity regularly and engage in conversations about safe, online activity.  Please see the list below for parent resources on these topics.  

    Parent Controls and Privacy Settings:

    • Bark Parental Control Guide: Bark is one tool used by Addison School District 4 to monitor your child's Chromebook activity.  Bark has also created an extensive guide for parents about how to set-up parental controls and privacy settings on a child's personal device for web browsers, gaming systems, social media, etc.  
       
    • Common Sense Media Parental Controls Guide (English/Español): Common Sense Media offers ideas and best practices for using parental controls and privacy settings to keep your child safe online.

     

    Parent Resources and Guides:

    2. EveryoneOn: Everyoneon.org matches families up to programs in their area based on qualifying factors.  Families enter their zip code and answer a one question survey.  Once the survey is complete, the site will share options for applying for programs for wireless access, computer/device purchases, and computer training in the area.  The site is in English and Spanish.  
       
    3. Comcast Affordable Internet: Internet for as low as $9.95 plus tax per month for qualifying families.Families must apply and be approved to participate in the program. There is an additional option for families to purchase a computer at a discounted rate.
       
    4. Access from AT&T: Internet for as low as $10, plus tax per month for qualifying families.  Families must apply and be approved to participate in the program.  Website is only in English, but Spanish-speaking customers can call 855/220-5225 to apply or speak to a customer service representative.
       
    5. People’s Resource Center: Participants who take two weeks of computer classes at the People’s Resource Center can apply for a free refurbished computer.  Classes are open to any DuPage County residents.  To register for a class or request a computer, please call 630/682-5402, extension 223.
